Dr Paul van Minnen MD, PhD, EBOPRAS, FRACS (Plast) is a Specialist Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon who has focused his clinical practice exclusively on hand and wrist surgery since 2015. He provides bespoke specialist care for adults with upper limb conditions, combining technical skill with a personal, respectful, and affable approach.
Professional Background
Paul studied medicine, obtained his PhD, and completed his training in Plastic, Reconstructive, and Hand Surgery at Utrecht University in The Netherlands. Hand and wrist surgery became his primary interest early in his training. He qualified as a Netherlands Board (NVPC) and European Board (EBOPRAS) certified plastic surgeon before moving to Australia in 2012.
In Adelaide, he completed three years of advanced fellowship training in Reconstructive Microsurgery, Burns Surgery, and Hand and Wrist Surgery at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre. In 2015, he was awarded Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) as a plastic and reconstructive surgeon.
Leadership & Directorships
Paul is the Founder and Director of GRIP: Hand, Wrist & Reconstructive Surgery and the associated GRIP: Hand Therapy practice, providing a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach to upper limb, hand, and wrist conditions.
Since 2025, he has also been a co-owner and Director of Eastwood Private Hospital, a newly built, state-of-the-art, 51-inpatient-bed private hospital in Adelaide. He serves on the hospital’s Medical Advisory Committee and is a co-founder of the Eastwood Upper Limb Institute.
Clinical Practice
Paul is committed full-time to the private practice of hand and wrist surgery. He utilises current techniques including arthroscopic wrist surgery, joint replacement, and minimally invasive hand surgery.
He has a specialised interest in surgery for Dupuytren's disease, joint replacement surgery, base of thumb reconstruction, and complex revision surgery. Paul has published multiple papers in peer-reviewed scientific journals and authored a hand surgery textbook chapter.
